Description
The Office of Disability Resources at SUNY Purchase College is actively recruiting an individual to join our team as a Learning Specialist for Cornerstone Connect. This specialized service is designed to assist students in need of executive functioning support, with the primary goal of enhancing their overall learning experience and educational journey. Students will have the option to register for weekly coaching sessions.
During these coaching sessions, students will collaborate with a highly trained learning specialist to outline and work towards achieving 2-3 specific goals that are directly related to their academic, personal, and/or career development. The Learning Specialist will work under the supervision of the Director of the Office of Disability Resources, who is part of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
Job Duties and Functions (include but are not limited to):
  • Provide one-on-one targeted intervention with students, which may include skills related to: time management and organization, study strategies, stress management, social interactions, health and wellness, role playing and social scripts, self-advocacy, daily living skills, etc.
  • Assist students in developing individualized goals using student questionnaires and behavior rating scales; monitor progress towards goals and provide students with a summary of their progress at the end of each semester.
  • Collaborate with ODR staff to facilitate access for students in the program, as appropriate.
  • Provide leadership and supervision of the office peer mentor program, including but not limited to recruitment and onboarding of peer mentors, expectations of peer mentor program etc.
  • Review applications and conduct interviews with prospective students on a rolling basis.
  • Work with the Director of ODR to send out acceptance letters and manage cohort numbers.
  • Consult with faculty, staff, and other relevant departments on campus regarding student caseload.
  • Make appropriate referrals to on-campus (e.g. tutoring services) and off-campus resources (e.g. outside treatment providers).
  • Coordinate with ODR staff to facilitate campus wide program events and social activities.
  • Organize and lead weekly support group(s) for students based on interest/need
  • Create weekly workshop curriculum for weekly support group(s)
  • Collaborate with the Career Development Center and outside agencies to assist students in developing skills for internships and employment.
  • Provide outreach to prospective students and families and represent Cornerstone at college events.
  • Collaborate with ODR to provide advocacy and training within the community.
  • Participate in a summer orientation program for new students enrolled in the program.
  • Assist the Director of Disability Resources in program assessments, including yearly data collection, analysis, and reporting related to the Cornerstone Program.
  • Maintain student records, schedules, and correspondence in computer software (Accommodate).

Qualifications
Required Education/Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Disability Services, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Special Education, School Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field required.
  • 2 to 4 years relevant experience required.
  • Experience with disability inclusion in higher education or related experience with mental health disabilities, preferably in a college or university setting; knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to persons with disabilities.
  • Strong attention to detail, proven experience managing complex assignments and meeting required deadlines.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred Education/Qualifications:
  • Experience providing executive functioning or academic coaching, disabilities services, or related experience with Autism Spectrum Disorders preferred, preferably in a college or university setting.
